VULTR is a foreign VPS hosting provider that we are familiar with. It often has various gift activities (the latest activity: New users receive 50 US dollars ). The VPS is based on the KVM architecture, supports hourly billing, and supports Alipay. WeChat recharge, supports custom ISO installation of operating systems, etc. Although most of the packages with a minimum of US$2.50 and US$3.50 are currently out of stock, VULTR has certain advantages in terms of the number of data centers and ease of operation.

At present, when visiting foreign countries from home, the network lines can be said to be changing. During the process of using the host, we finally configured the environment and even had the data for the website, but we want to switch to other nodes. Is there an easier way? ultr provides Snapshots snapshot backup function. Through this function, we can package the existing VPS host as a whole and then migrate it to a new computer room for restoration, which saves the need to reinstall the configuration. Environment and uploading recovery data and other operations greatly save time. I just need to do similar operations at hand, so I record them for reference by friends with similar needs.

As shown below, enter the VPS host management page that needs to be migrated, click on the header menu Snapshots, enter a Label (label), and then click Take Snapshot.

You can also directly log in to the Vultr Member Center, click Servers on the left, then click Snapshots in the header, then Add Snapshot, then select the corresponding VPS host to create a snapshot (the first method above is recommended, which is more intuitive).

Click Create and wait patiently. Depending on the size of your data, the longer the data is, the more data you have. After completion, we will see that the status of the snapshot is Available and it will be OK.

The hosts here are all Linux systems. After the recovery is completed, the new host status is displayed as Running. We can try to access it. For example, I installed a probe before and directly accessed the probe with a new IP and confirmed that it is OK; if there is a website, try Resolve the domain name to the new host IP (you can directly modify the local hosts file), test access, and confirm OK!

Note that the login information of the restored host is consistent with the original host. We can test the login. After all data is confirmed, we can delete the old host.

In general, this method of using snapshots to back up and migrate data is very easy to operate and can save a lot of time. You can also try it during use.
